Punctuation...the bane of the narrators life...sometimes not enough, sometimes too much, sometimes non-existent...BUT...the point is that the author, when writing, puts the punctuation that helps to make sense to the reader, to convey the author's thoughts...but you now have to convey those thoughts to audio...
So somtimes it's okay to break those rules, use the punctuation to help you understand the text, then you make the text work...the punctuation rules are there for you, don't ignore them...but you can break them.
